There are few characters in Scripture as infamous as Judas Iscariot. His very name has become synonymous with betrayal, greed, and the personification of evil. The Gospel accounts vary as to the motivation that led to Judas’ betrayal of Jesus. One thing is abundantly clear; Jesus was well aware of the coming betrayal long before it took place on that storied night in the garden of Gethsemane. As Jesus gathered His disciples for that sacred meal we now call the Last Supper, Judas was invited to the table. Jesus made no distinction as to who was welcome to receive His Body and Blood. In truth, all of those gathered around that table would abandon Jesus in just a few hours. There is a powerful message of grace contained within that final meal. God’s grace calls every person to that sacred table. As people rise from that table some will betray the Lord, some will run away, but some will become powerful witnesses of the Good News. That is the beauty of grace. That is genuinely Good News. Blessings, Pastor Tom John 13:1-5 Now before the festival of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. 2 The devil had already put it into the heart of Judas son of Simon Iscariot to betray him. And during supper 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, 4 got up from the table,[a] took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself. 5 Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him.
